Coastwalk

Goring by Sea → Brighton

Distance: 13.8 miles
Ascent: unknown
Duration: unknown

The prom
« Bognor Regis | Rottingdean »

It turned out to be a not-quite-continuous prom. There's a gap in Goring, but once you get into Worthing you're on definite tourist town territory.

Worthing, Lancing, Shoreham, Southwick, Portslade, Hove and Brighton.

At Shoreham, the River Adur has been converted into a dock so the walk takes a turn inland to follow the grimy A259 past warehouses, petrol stations and other industry.

Opposite Southwick railway station though, a hidden path takes you across the harbour lock to the seafront, where a narrow road leads you past a disused power station to the point where the prom resumes.

At some indeterminate point Hove morphs into Brighton, a transformation you are only certain is complete when you come across familiar landmarks: the tired West Pier, the Grand Hotel, the Brighton Centre and the Palace Pier.
