"I know you love powers of two," said Emma.
Today for the first time in my life I need fourteen binary digits to count the days I've lived. When I tripped into thirteen binary digits I was still at college; day 212 came in secondary school.
Fourteen bits will do me until 2061. I'll never see fifteen.
But before then, there's one more interesting flag day. In the early hours of 1 January 2040 my time_ts wrap around: the number of seconds of my life will no longer fit in a 32-bit signed integer.
I told you 2 was important.
