Bradford Film Festival

[National Museum of Photography, Film & Television]

The good thing about Leeds being so centrally located it has a low Detour Coefficient. Pretty much no matter where I'm heading north of the M62, Leeds is on the way. So I'm taking a couple of days out to catch up with Nicola before hitting the road again.

My visit coincides with the Bradford Film Festival, so we've managed to catch three films from three different countries over two days.

[Cinema tickets]

The Italian Film: I'm not Scared
Superb. A coming-of-age tale set in glowing golden cornfields. Fantastic colour, subtle details, excellent acting from a young cast (many in debut roles).

The Danish Film: The Bouncer
Extreme. Like I'm not Scared, a film that focusses on a father/son relationship, but this time twenty years later. Tough to watch; perhaps not suitable to a British cultural palate? (Interesting casting: Iben Hjejle, who you probably last saw in High Fidelity.)

The Irish Film: The Honeymooners
Lightweight farce. Well-written, well-filmed and apparently on a shoestring budget. A product of the digicam revolution; we need more like this.
