A miserable day, but feeling that I'd rather wasted yesterday, and with half an eye on the limited days left in the week I was keen to knock off some miles. Today my goal was to walk to Angle.

Leaving Pembroke, the wind and rain picked up again. As I turned off the road across the muddy fields, the wind rushing through the overhead wires made a ghostly howl. Ahead, the chimneys and drums of the Rhoscrowther oil refinery provided a suitably bleak backdrop, with occasional bursts of flame licking up from a couple of the taller structures. The phrase dark, satanic mills came to mind, and I quickened my pace so that I'd sooner be out not only of the rain, but also of this cold oppressive place.

Once past the refinery, the sweep of Angle Bay was pleasant enough, but I was in no mood to hang about.

Looking at the map I expected more of Angle - I found a small village with little more than a post office and a phone box. Disappointed I summoned my favourite taxi firm and headed home.

(Home now - well, as of last night when I crossed the toll bridge at Neyland - is the Manorbier YHA at Shrinkle Haven. Once again I have the whole hostel to myself, but in contrast to the Penycwm hostel, this one's right on the coast path. If I keep up I should reach it on foot in two or three days' time.)
