Earlier in the week I made up my mind: I wouldn't go home before I'd made it to St David's Head. (Or at least, if I did have to go home I'd be sorely disappointed.) Today I made it to that target - and beyond.

It helped that shortly after leaving Trefin, St David's Head came into view. The going was relatively easy, but there was little shelter from the biting wind (though thankfully it was behind me).

Above Porthgain there were more disused workings - more extensive this time, the local sheep clearly in charge of the industry now.

When I finally got to St David's Head, it was a bit of a disappointment. I thought I remembered coming here as a child, but there was nothing I could recognise; the headland itself was bare and insignificant. Below the head, the surfers braving Whitesands Bay stopped temporarily as I arrived, to allow two seal pups to be released back into the wild.

There was no public transport from Whitesands Bay so I decided to keep going and eventually turned inland when I reached St Justinian's, catching the bus back to Trefin from the city of St David's itself.
